Client is a global leader in container shipping and ports, operating in 130 countries globally.

 

Client is also one of the first global conglomerates who implemented HFM for financial consolidation back in 2003. Migrating from Hyperion Enterprise, their group HFM has been developed to cater to the various requirements of their Business Areas (BA’s). Each BA had their own instance of the HFM application, each supporting their specific needs for local Management Reporting and specialized forecast models.

 

All BA’s reported to the Group HFM application, both on Actual and Forecast data, maintaining the mapping locally from local to group requirements.

 

 

REPLACING HFM & FDM WITH ONESTREAM

One of the first projects B-EYE was engaged in was for the client’s HFM replacement project. Our consultants were part of building their very first HFM application back in 2003 and have been supporting them ever since.

 

In 2013, B-EYE also helped Client migrate from HFM and FDM into OneStream. All BA applications and the Group Application were migrated into one common OneStream solution, where all BA’s had their own Cube to support local requirements for reporting, as well as seeding the data to the group on a higher level of detail.

 

The Client’s current landscape in OneStream includes:

 

● Approx. 1,000 Reporting Entities placed around the world following a complex ownership setup (due to the scale of Client’s operations)

● Approx. 1,500 users

● More than 300 Financial Reports

 

After the implementation project, B-EYE was engaged by the Client for our Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) solution which covers on-going functional and technical support.

LOOKING FOR A CONSOLIDATION & REPORTING SOLUTION

All consolidation and eliminations within Client’s organization were done through SAP Account structures and as a sum of all entities. With 3,000+ active accounts and 4,000+ inactive accounts in their Chart of Accounts, there was no existing consolidation system in place and the entire process is highly manual, time consuming and prone to errors.

 

The reporting and closing process is very similar, with huge number of Excel reporting files being maintained. Due to legal requirements, a lot of reporting structures were also needed for the various reporting to be done.

 

When we started working with Client last 2017, they expressed their need for an automated and system-based consolidation and reporting process to streamline and optimize their financial reporting & closing cycle. With a single, automated system to cover these requirements, they aimed to:

● Have a faster closing process

● Reduce risk of errors reporting

● Reduce time spent by employees doing manual work so they can focus on more strategic tasks

● Ensure transparent documentation for consolidation and eliminations

EQUIPMENT

Client is a leading global provider of professional cleaning products and services. With nearly 6,000 employees globally, the company sells its products in more than 100 countries across the world.

 

 

TAKING PROFITABILITY REPORTING TO THE NEXT LEVEL

Client used HFM for the Consolidation and Reporting process. In addition to this, they were maintaining a huge and complex excel model to do various reporting and dashboards (in PowerPoint) on their Profitability data. The detailed level of data from various ERP systems got too big to be handled in Excel, which brought about the need for a better solution.

 

The new solution for Profitability reporting had to support the following areas:

● Reduce risk of errors in reporting

● Faster reporting process

● Handle more details than Excel could handle

● Ensure a transparent and scalable solution

● Direct integration of data sources

 

In addition to the Profitability Reporting, their current HFM solution was no longer scalable. Adding on requirements to one solution for years without cleaning up unused reporting from prior periods, made the current HFM solution slow and heavy to maintain. Hence, the new tool for Profitability had to handle the Consolidation and Reporting as well.

 

Client selected B-eye Solutions to implement OneStream for their Profitability Solution, and to also support the solution via the Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) service.
